Da lachen die Hühner

Laughing chicken

a film by Bertram Verhaag

15 min

“I wish I was a hen, cluck cluck, with not too much to do, cluck cluck - every day I’d lay an egg, and Sundays maybe two,” sang the Comedian Harmonists. But their description no longer rings true. Most hens now spend their lives in cages. This film looks at the alternative to battery farming: airy sheds with lots of daylight, large, open runs, and the company of cockerels. On average, these free-range hens produce 16 more eggs in every laying period. Happily watching the scene is Professor Detlef Fölsch, accompanied by his dog.
